How to Keep Homemade Cookies Fresh for Days (Not Hours)

You just picked up your order. The cookies are perfect. Here's how to keep them that way — because the biggest mistake people make happens in the first 10 minutes after pickup.

The #1 Mistake: Putting Them in the Fridge

Refrigerators pull moisture out of baked goods fast. A fresh cookie that goes in the fridge will be dry and crumbly within 24 hours. Unless you're in a very warm climate and worried about food safety, keep your cookies at room temperature.

The Right Way: Airtight Container at Room Temp

An airtight container at room temperature is the move. Layer cookies between sheets of parchment paper if you're stacking them. They'll stay soft and fresh for 3–5 days. If you got a box from me, the box itself is fine for the first day or two — just make sure it's closed.

For Longer Storage: Freeze Them

Cookies freeze beautifully. Lay them flat in a single layer on a baking sheet, freeze for 1–2 hours until solid, then transfer to a zip-lock bag. They'll keep for up to 3 months. To thaw: leave at room temperature for 30 minutes. They'll taste just-baked.

The Warm-Up Trick

Want that fresh-from-the-oven experience? Pop a cookie in the microwave for 10–15 seconds. The chocolate gets gooey again and the whole thing softens up. It's dangerous. You've been warned.
